The Utah Jazz has usually not been to help the Los Angeles Lakers. They were the third team that helped facilitate the Luka Doncic trade. However, they have usually not been to help the title search of the Lakers. However, one proposed trade would in fact give the Lakers exactly what they need: an all-star big man in Lauri Markkanen.
Andy Bailey from Bleacher Report A three -way trade outlined between the jazz, Lakers and Miami Heat in which the following would happen.
Get Lakers: Markkanen
Heat gets: Austin Reaves, SVI Mykhailiuk
Jazz Get: Terry Rozier, Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Dalton servant, Lakers 2026 First round Pick, 2031 Lakers First Round Pick, 2031 Heat first round Pick
Bailey explained why the jazz would do this, and the reasoning is in the least not surprising.
“The objectives here are pretty clear for Utah. This deal makes the jazz worse in the short term. That is good for the opportunities of the lottery. The basketball gods may not have been nice for them this summer, but perhaps they reward perseverance with the first pick in 2026.
“The greater chance of winning that selection is the short -term profit. Long term always helps to have more choices, and this framework gives them three (by Reaves to the Heat),” Bailey wrote.
That is not the only reason why the jazz would make such an exchange.
The deal also knew the catwalk for more development for younger attackers such as Ace Bailey (the fifth pick of this year), Taylor Hendricks (whose second -year campaign was demolished by injury after just three games) and even Kyle Filipski (who may have enough perimeter -skill).
For the sake of clarity, the first condition in possible jazz lakers where the Lakers improve from it would make that 2027 first round pick the last one is already the first to make the first that the first is completely unprotected. That is the first thing you need to know about a hypothetical trade between the two.
Now it is difficult enough to see the Jazz trade Markkanen on the Lakers, because even if they get more picks out of it, the quality of those choices would not be great, because linking Doncic with Markkanen would bring their ceiling to a title candidate.
However, there is another reason why the Jazz does not trade the Markkans period.
His Eurobasket game was too good for jazz to trade it now
A contrary will say that because of how good Markkanen has been in the Eurobasket tournament, now that it is as good time as always for jazz to exchange him. However, it is for the same reason that it is the opposite.
Markkanen has looked a bit like a star to build around for Finland. He looks like the exact player Utah did not hesitate last year to extend when the chance was given. Trading him now is perhaps not the best step when Jazz starts to show some progress this year, even if they still won’t win from many games.
Moreover, the jazz has made it clear that they do not want to increase their amount of picks if they want to improve the quality of them. Exciting a star like Markkanen for Picks is logical, but that can all be for nothing if the choices they come back for him, the team does not really improve in the long term.
Although almost everyone will say that the Jazz would never exchange Markkanen for the Lakers, and that is very true, it means that it does not matter which team Markkans gets in a hypothetical trade because Utah does not exchange him period.
