Jason Kelce calls out MLB and Dodgers for ‘buying’ World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series for the second straight season in 2025, and there has been no shortage of drama surrounding their recent dominance in the MLB.

The Dodgers have shown in recent years that they are more than willing to spend money to secure top players, which has created a lot of discussion around the league. Former NFL center Jason Kelce gave his thoughts on the matter on the New Heights podcast.

“Are you saying I should get excited about a Canadian baseball team and a team that just spends more money than everyone else?” Kelce said. “Who even cares?”

“That’s why baseball sucks. You’re just buying World Series championships… Everyone knew before the season this was going to happen. We just had a lot of pointless stuff leading up to it, and then it happened.”

Although the Dodgers had the highest payroll in the MLB last season at $350 million, Kelce neglects to mention that two other teams were also above $300 million.

The New York Mets missed the playoffs with a payroll of $342 million, proving that money doesn’t directly translate into wins, and the New York Yankees lost in the postseason despite their similarly high salaries. The Philadelphia Phillies were just under $300 million, and also lost to the Dodgers in the NLDS.

The Dodgers also faced the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, and they were one of only five teams with a payroll over $250 million.

LA’s spending plays a role in their success, but their smart decisions in free agency and trades gave them the edge over their rivals in the postseason. The Dodgers have also done well in player development, with key players like Will Smith and Max Muncy playing a big role in the Dodgers’ Game 7 win.

The Dodgers have access to the best free agents because they are willing to spend money, but organizational decisions and financial responsibility are still big factors in a team’s success.
