The Italian tennis star started his 2025 season by successfully defending his Australian Open title.
A few days later it was announced that Sinner had agreed to a three-month doping ban with WADA and would be suspended between February 9 and May 4. The settlement came just before the former world number 1 was due to appear before a CAS judge.
After returning to tennis in May, Sinner won his first Wimbledon title and captured consecutive ATP Finals titles. The Italian also finished second to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals of the French Open and US Open, losing the battle to year-end No. 1.
Overall, it was still a strong season for Sinner as he won two Grand Slams and improved to four Majors in total.
Sinner on his 2025: Some highs that felt incredible and some lows that were hard to accept
“Guys, what a year it’s been. Some of the highs felt incredible, and some of the lows felt really hard to accept. But throughout this whole year, I’m not just seeing results. I’m seeing big lessons,” the 24-year-old said in a video message uploaded to his Instagram.
“I am very grateful to my entire team, my family and all of you, for all the support you have given me throughout the year. It really means the world to me. For now, I wish everyone a Happy New Year, celebrate it with the people you love, and see you back on the field soon. Ciao Ciao.”
As in the previous two years, Sinner opted not to play any tournaments in the first two weeks of the season. Instead, he will start his season at the Australian Open.
