Winning a rare ‘three-level’ is the expectations that observers in Australia have set in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, but such a case is hardly discussed within the team.
What the current batch speaks and thinks about is actually ensuring that they can jointly continue the way of boomers – or keep the winning tradition of the program alive, especially in the continental tilt.
“We did not necessarily talk about the three-poll,” said Jack McVeigh,
“But certainly, we talked about the history of Australia in this and how they played,” he added, “and what we can learn and take from and of that kind of culture and style with which Australia plays.”
“And, who certainly wore this tournament,” he continued.
Newly appointed head coach Adam Caporn went with a youth loaded Australia team for this year’s Asia Cup, without any remnant of the batch that made its way to back-to-back titles in 2022 in Jakarta.
In fact, the average age of this specific group is 24.0, although the brain thrust of the team has still made it a point to add a few experienced players to the mix, and one of them is the 29-year-old McVeigh itself.
“We have a couple of young boys and were allowed to wear the Australian green and gold for the first time, and then we got veterinarians – boys who are there, played in professional basketball for many years,” he said.
“It is like a great combination of energy and a little wisdom to go outside and help us win games,” added the Olympian from 2024, which is a proud product of the Basketball Australia Center of Excellence.
The former Houston Rocket has been playing professionally since 2018 and he embraces the somewhat unique role he has – a kind of vocal bridge between their predecessors and the Young Bloods.

“I am about to enter my eighth year as a professional. So that’s around. And, using my voice to lead, creating trust and helping everyone to get the best apart on the field,” said McVeigh.

However, McVeigh is enthusiastic about the challenge.
“They will be a number of great basketball teams, and it is a great basketball tournament,” offered the New South Wales-Nativeive. “We have to come, take our best, do what we do and play Australian basketball.”
“I feel good about what will happen,” he closed.
