A former UFC champion Welterweight is skeptical about Jack della Maddalena who is successful in his era.
Maddalena is the ruling 170 pound title holder. He conquered the gold by beating Belal Muhammad on UFC 315 via a unanimous decision. Maddalena demonstrated effective removal and stand -up to earn the good weight gold.
“JDM” is expected to risk his gold against former UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev before 2025 ends. During an interview with Action networkTyron Woodley claimed that Maddalena would not have even been a title champion when he was the reigning welterweight champion
“He wouldn’t have been in my sights,” said Woodley. I would not have looked at him in the scope. He would not have completed Carlos (Condit). He would certainly not have come by Robbie (Lawler). ‘Wonderboy’ (Thompson) does better against pure strikers than all of us.
“His timing and his capacities, just to go in very quickly, he would have defeated him. I think he is a good hunter. I never take people away from people, it’s hard to win a championship just because there is so much pressure. But I can just come up with ten people in my division who was the champion who would have defeated him.”
Woodley successfully defended the UFC Welterweight Championship against Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia and Darren Till. He beat Robbie Lawler to catch the gold of 170 pounds. “The Chosen One” eventually lost the championship in an eruption decision to Kamaru Usman in 2019.
As far as Maddalena is concerned, he probably has the chance to hand over the first loss of his Pro MMA career to Makhachev. Many experts believe that Maddalena will be a strict test for Makhachev because of its size and improved Takedown defense. If Maddalena can leave the fight, things can become interesting in the striking department.
