Earlier on Monday, an Elysee officer said about the last video: “It was a moment when the president and his wife relieve the last time before the start of the journey.”

Mr. Macron’s visit to Vietnam, the first by a French president in almost a decade, comes when he wants to stimulate the influence of France in his former colony.

Vietnam, which has a heavily export -driven economy, has made the US concessions in trade discussions in an attempt to avoid 46 percent rates. But Brussels is concerned that Vietnam’s efforts to buy more American goods can come at the expense of Europe.

US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 50 percent rates on the import of the European Union on Friday, but soften his position two days later, which restored a deadline of July 9 for conversations between Washington and Brussels.
