‘It’s in the DNA at Everton’ – Moyes happy with ‘great’ victory at Villa Park – Football News

David Moyes says ‘it’s in Everton’s DNA’ to record ‘great’ wins after they recorded a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Thierno Barry scored the all-important goal for Everton in the 59th minute, denying Unai Emery’s side the chance to finish second in the table.

It also ended an eleven-match winning streak at Villa Park, with Everton enjoying their first league victory over Villa since March 2016, ending a thirteen-match winless streak against them in the top flight (D4 L9).

Everton also hit the post with just 11 seconds on the clock, and a first-half goal was disallowed as Harrison Armstrong interfered with play from an offside position before Jake O’Brien nodded.

Only Arsenal (six) have won more away games in the Premier League this season than Everton (five).

Since Moyes’ first away game back in charge in January 2025, the Toffees’ ten wins in the league are the most of any team along with Arsenal.

“It was great. It was quite a difficult week for us but we got over that,” Moyes told Sky Sports.

“It’s never easy to get here. The boys started well and we took confidence from it. We hit the post straight away. Overall I’m very happy with the performance.”

“We want to create more chances. We didn’t create many. The clean sheet is the reason why we could win the game. They made a mistake. Dwight [McNeil] got a shot on goal, and the striker follows it.

“Some credit to the players. It’s in Everton’s DNA; we can get wins out of it.”

After scoring just once in his first 18 Premier League appearances, Barry has since scored three goals in his last four.

No player has scored more league goals for Everton this season than the Frenchman (four, level with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye).

“I’m very happy. I scored again and we won,” Barry told BBC MOTD.

“Everything is perfect today. It’s my job and I have to score. I haven’t scored a lot, but I always tried to score. Today I had one chance and I took it, so I’m happy.”
