Reece James has finally made it through a run of Chelsea games without getting injured, something we’ve all been wanting for a while.
His career has been plagued by injuries, but ultimately we are now seeing a period where he remains fit and plays regularly. I would also like to compliment Enzo Maresca and the medical staff for guiding him so well by dropping him off when necessary.
James is now out of the latest international breakthrough with an ‘injury’. But as I reported yesterday, he’s not really injured, just muscle fatigue and a wound that needs to heal. The latter is not the reason why he is out of the international break, rather it is the muscle fatigue and the need for rest. Again, this is just being well managed, and personally I don’t believe it was England who sent him back. I think Chelsea is smart.
I believe James just needs some rest, and you can see why. You can understand why. In his recent games for Chelsea he has been fantastic and has given 100% in every minute he has played.
Against Liverpool on Saturday, James won all four tackles he attempted, completed 28 of his 31 passes, made two key passes and had 40 touches, while no player on the pitch had more. James also won the only aerial duel he contested, making two clearances.
His heat map from the game shows just how busy he was…
Being injury-prone, these types of performances are of course risky, but they are also necessary. He is our captain and if he stays fit regularly, I think he is the best right-back in the world.
So let’s let him rest for now and I don’t think we’ll worry about him not coming back after the international break, based on what I’ve heard.
