It’s all true for Bergs: Big Doelen, Crowd Support & AMP; more

It is all true for Zizou Bergs, who appreciates every detail of the sport, from competing in the big stages to the small experiences and everything in between. But some things stand out.

Atptour.com has overtaken the Belgian to discuss his favorite rivalry, greatest success, goals, the most unique moment of his career and more.

What is your favorite tennis rivement?

I mean, it was absolutely Nadal federer. Let’s see what it will be like now. Now the greatest rivalry, I think that Alcaraz is Sinner. But maybe these new young boys, they will also bring the heat up with Joao [Fonseca] And maybe student [Tien]. Let’s look. But they already did that, like different spectacular match two days ago or three days ago [here in Miami].

What makes a great rivalry for you?

A great rivalry is something that is historically going on. So, time after a while they meet again. And it is with winning and losing from both sides, especially the crowd that gets involved. Perhaps sometimes Federer-Nadal was very lusty, perhaps sometimes a bit provocative. Can also be fun. But I certainly think that when a crowd starts to be involved, it can be a very nice one.

Who would you say that your biggest rival is?

I don’t have one. I have a different path, a different route. I feel that nobody is following my path. Maybe the young person [players]They already meet in early Tennis Europe [events] And after the juniors, and they rise very quickly together. But I have a slow fast-Slow-Slow-Slow-fast run. So that’s why I don’t have anyone.

What was the most unique moment in your career?

The French open. It is clear that it is also related to results. But for me it is also very important with the crowds, related [to that]. How much they are with me, how much they support me, how much a party we can make on the tennis court. And this happens in Davis Cup and [Belgium].

But everything came together a bit at the French, where I came through the qualities that won my first head drawing in a Grand Slam match, and then went ahead to the third round against Dimitrov on Philippe Chatrier and also last round qualities at Mathias Bourgue. I think those moments were the most unique in my career so far.

What is the biggest performance or number or ranking that you have pursued?

The longest and the biggest was top 100. But when I achieved it, when we sat down and achieved our new goals, it was clearly top 50. But at the end of the year we got a new one, and that is top 20. So now now. [only] The Top 20 is in my head.

What is the greatest difficulty you have to overcome? Has there been a difficult moment or something?

The most difficult was the physical part of mine with the cramping history. But then because my body always let me let at some point, my head also let me down. And then I think that was the most difficult moment in 2019, when I moved from Belgium to try something new in Spain.

And by doing that, even leaving all my family and friends behind [back] At home, although that is super important to me, I really became happy again because of the hard work I did there. [I was] Only having tennis, but really hard work, and that would make me the most happy at the end of the day.

What is your favorite tournament to play and why?

What is your favorite tournament to play and why? [It was] Antwerp or the French Open, or Davis Cup. Just where many Belgians come and start living together.

What was your biggest Off-Court experience you gained because of the life of a tennis player?

There are as many fun things as we travel and you have the advantages to be a tennis player and the tournament organizes activities, or some people invites you to do activities. From having a boat trip to visiting something locally to just have a dinner together with the family in their house in a specific country, they are all those little things. It’s just very cool to be able to [do] Because you have a lot of tour. But often you only see the hotel and the tennis club, but then to do something out, when people invite you or organize something, and you sometimes realize what benefits you have a tennis player.
