‘It’s a mistake’ – Fulham bewildered by Manchester United Target Decision

Fulham -defender Calvin Bassey and manager Marco Silva remained perplexed by the decision to allow the goal of Manchester United in Craven Cottage on Sunday.

The Red Devils got away with a point, but could have all taken three if Bruno Fernandes had turned his first half a fine. Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the place after Bassey Mason Mount had thrown on the floor, but the Portugal International skied his attempt on the bar.

United took the lead in the 58th minute when Lenny Yoro’s header bounced in Rodrigo Muniz. Impact replacement Emile Smith Rowe then scored the equalizer only two minutes after the couch arrived.

Fulham, however, is the feeling that United’s goal should not have been awarded in the first place, because Yoro Bassey pushed out of the way to win the ball.

“It’s the same as mine,” the Nigerian defender told Sky Sports. “It’s a mistake. He pushed me to prevent me from coming to the ball.

“If the referee looks back on it, he will be disappointed. I can’t say too much before I get a fine!

“But come on, it’s a mistake. If you have to jump, any small touch can scare you. He has two hands [on my back]. How much worse do you need? On another day it goes to our advantage.

“It’s enough for me not to win the ball and it’s an advantage for him, so it should have been given.”

Silva was stunned that VAR did not reverse the decision on the field after repetitions showed that Yoro Bassey was pushing in the back.

“I can’t understand,” he said. “I would like to explain everything to you until the last whistle, but it is not my job. I don’t want to go in this direction. Everyone in the world saw what happened this afternoon in Craven Cottage.”
