The New Orleans -Pelikans have packed their first presidential match against Melbourne United. In the 107-97 victory, Micah Peavy was a big striking man for me; His efforts, aggressiveness and calmness were really encouraging.
When he was set up in the NBA design of 2025 40th, I was not too familiar with his game and he was afraid that the pelicans wasted a choice to someone who would never be anything in the NBA. After a summer competition, however, I fell in love with his tough style of the game. This sentiment is something that took place after his performance in the presidential opener.
In his debut for the preseason, PeaVy had 7 points, 1 rebound and 3 steals on 3-out-5 shooting from the field. Although these figures do not scream from the design or the future staple in the rotation of the Pelicans, the eye test did.
The defense was as advertised!
His ability as a defender to get into his position, plant his feet, slide his feet and use his active hands was great to see a rookie. He looked like the best defender on the field during all his 21 minutes played tonight.
Intyty looked impossible to drive on And come around for all players of Melbourne United. His patience and high basketball IQ was able to read the United players as a book during the game, allowing him to get comic cultivation and balls loose.
He looked like a 5-year-old professional than a rookie with the way in which he treated himself at the defensive end.
The attacking game is a lot better than initially expected
PeaVy is always advertised as a wing stopper, who has a solid jumping shot, but may never be very offensive. This version suggested differently. Now, to clarify, I don’t think PeaVy will ever be an insulation party, but he has a lot of potential as a secondary ball handler, which we see in this game.
One game stands out specifically, During the late third quarterWhen United walked a one -man players, Peavy raised the ball. He hit a crossover on half-court, then drove extremely hard right and left a baseline midrange pull-up. New Orleans needed a bucket, and Peavy was able to take advantage of what the defense gave him and exploit a slower defender.
As far as his shooting is concerned, he went 1/1 from deep on one Top-of-the-key three. PeaVy shot 40% of three out of 4.1 attempts per match in his last season in George Town, and he already has good enough mechanics, where I think he will be a competition-average three-point shooter.
In the same way as we saw that Jose Alvarado became a favorite of fans, is the same path that I think PeaVy is going down. Both boys just play extremely hard, and the city of New Orleans appreciates and respects that. Do not be surprised if this playing style also deserves the confidence of Willie Green, and we see the pick for the second round becoming a real piece in this team rotation this season.
