Islanders fall to Penguins, 4-0, in Sunday Matinee | Pro Hockey News

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Returning to Total Mortgage Arena for their third game in three days and the second half of a back-to-back with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Bridgeport Islanders were eliminated by their Atlantic Division rivals, 4-0.

With the opening period ending scoreless, the Islanders peppered Sergei Mursahov with 12 shots on goal, including five in a span of 52 seconds, while Henrik Tikkanen denied Filip Hallander on a breakaway in the closing seconds of the period.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a 1-0 lead 4:29 into the second period thanks to Tanner Howe, who found space in the slot and buried the opening score for his fifth point in his last three games. The Penguins struck again at 16:31 into the picture when Phil Kemp launched a slapshot from the point past Tikkanen for his third of the season.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton added two goals on a big five-minute penalty in the third period, courtesy of Gabe Klassen and Aidan McDonough, to ice the game.

The Islanders return to action on Wednesday, February 25 for a home game against the Charlotte Checkers, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at https://www.bridgeportislanders.com/.
