East Zone suffered a setback before the Duleep Trophy 2025 when Captain and Wicketkeeper-Batter Ishan Kishan was excluded due to injury. 20-year-old Odisha-Wicketkeeper Aashirwad Swain has been appointed as his replacement for the collision against North Zone in the six-team tournament.
This is after Pacer Akash Deep was excluded. Assam Medium Pacer Mukhtar Hussain has been added as his replacement. Akash Deep, who fought against fitness delivery, missed the Manchester match with a groin injury during the English test series before he returned for the fifth and final test in the oval.

Ishan Kishan has represented India in two tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20is since his debut in March 2021. He recently suffered an injury while playing for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship.

The injury prevented him from joining Team India when Rishabh Pant broke his toe in the fourth test against England. Tamil Nadu Wicketkeeper Narayan Jagadeesan was called up as coverage and Dhruv Jurel in the serial final.
Kishan, who was appointed captain of East Zone, will now miss the six-team tournament from 28 August in Bengaluru. He scored 77 points at number six in his last competitive match for Nottinghamshire against Somerset from June 29 to July 2.
Aashirwad Swain mentioned as the replacement of Ishan Kishan in East Zone
Odisha’s 20-year-old Wicketkeeper-Batter Aashirwad Swain is mentioned in the East Zone team for the Duleep trophy and replaces Ishan Kishan, whose absence has not been officially confirmed.
The Odisha Cricket Association announced the selection of Swain on social media. He will become a member of colleague -player Sandep Pattnaik, while Swastik Samal is mentioned as a standby.
“Odisha’s Wicketkeeper-Batter Aashirwad Swain has been selected for the East Zone team in the Duleep trophy, to replace Ishan Kishan! He joins Sandep Pattnaik in the team, while Swastik Samal is mentioned as standby,” was the explanation.
Swain, who made his first -class debut in January 2024, played 11 games and scored 615 runs on average 30.75, including three half centuries. He also excelled in the Cricket age group.
Abhimanyu Easwaran appointed East Zone Skipper in the absence of Kishan
Bengalse opener Abhimanyu Easwaran has been appointed captain of the East Zone Squad for the Duleep trophy. The 29-year-old, formerly the vice-captain, collected 7,841 runs in 103 first-class competitions at an average of 48.70, including 27 centuries and 31 half centures.
Easwaran was part of the test team of India against England, but had no chance to play and still has to make his international debut.
East Zone starts their campaign against North Zone in the first qualifying match on 28 August in the BCCI Center of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru. The winner will come across the southern zone in the semi -final at the same location, from 4 September.
