Florentine luxury brand Gucci has been around for over 100 years, but as today’s Nice Price or No Dice Fiat 500 proves, you can teach an old dog new tricks. This little fashion icon, decorated with the brand’s colors and iconic logos, is a rare example of the collaboration between the two legendary Italian names. Let’s see what luxury attributes can cost these days.
Heraclitus of Ephesus, the pre-Socratic philosopher, is best remembered for his controversial claim that everything we perceive is in a constant state of change. He profoundly observed that “you cannot step into the same river twice.”
As interesting as a theory may be, the 2001 Lexus GS 300 we looked at last Friday might prove otherwise. Stylish and reliable when new, and just as good now that Lexus – like most – indicates that standing still is indeed possible. What would such comfort cost in the midst of chaos? The dealer offering our GS charged $7,900 for the title transfer, a figure many of you thought was reasonable, giving the Lexus a satisfying Nice Price profit of 72%.
Five hundred
This 2012 Fiat 500 Gucci Edition comes from happier times Fiatand with its fashion house accessories, it’s a brutally stylish edition of the company’s retro-style small car.
House of Gucci
These elements are prominently featured on this 500. The car is equipped with unique striping, logos and model-specific leather upholstery, all beacons of the fashion brand. Nothing is too over the top, and for anyone immune to the allure of the Gucci name, there’s nothing about this special edition that detracts from its function and utility. Apart from some minor wear, it all appears to be in excellent condition.
City smoother
That shifter sits on top of a bulge under the stylish dashboard. Other cabin features include a black and white color scheme, automatic climate control and a panoramic moonroof over the two front seats. Everything here appears to be in good condition, although the white leather on the driver’s seat does show the car’s age and 161,410 miles.
This is less clear from the outside. The white paint still looks serviceable and the Gucci brand alloy wheels show no signs of curb damage. There is an odd crease at the weld seam under the driver’s door, possibly the result of a poor choice of jack position at a tire shop.
A lifestyle statement
What are you saying? Is that a fair price to wear official Gucci wherever you go? Or is this Fiat an embarrassing fashion mistake?
