Ipswich Town are close to signing goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic on a free transfer, according to a report from Ipswich Town TWTD.

Ipswich Town are on the verge of capturing the stopper following their recent departure from Peterborough United in League One. ITFC is currently looking at automatic promotion of the Championship along with Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Hull City.

Bilokapic, 23, recently had his contract mutually terminated at London Road and is now available for free. He made two appearances for the Posh earlier this season, both of which reached the league, but fell down the pecking order under Luke Williams.

In this latest update on his situation, TWTD have claimed that he is now expected to join the Tractor Boys. He will join the U21s as an overage player but will train with the first-team options.

Ipswich Town saw their proposed match against Portsmouth postponed for a second time earlier this week and will now have to reschedule that match at Fratton Park for another time. That means they have a match in hand against the teams around them, which could come in handy. Kieran McKenna’s men are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Derby County.

Championship news

Ipswich Town could see Bilokapic as someone who can increase their options between the sticks. He will provide ITFC with more competition and depth in their goalkeeping department.

When fit, Alex Palmer is usually their number one. He is then joined by Christian Walton and David Button, while they have also loaned out youngsters Cieran Slicker and Henry Gray.

A former Australian youth international, Bilokapic started his career Down Under with Sydney United 58. He moved to England as a teenager in 2020 to join Huddersfield Town.

The New South Wales native made eight appearances for the Terriers’ first team as a youngster before joining Hartlepool United on loan from West Yorkshire to gain some experience. Peterborough United then came calling in 2023 and since then he has made 61 appearances for the Posh in all competitions.

What next for Ipswich Town and Nicholas Bilokapic?

Ipswich Town will try to get a deal over the line for Bilokapic as quickly as possible. It should be relatively easy for ITFC to sort with the player without a club.

The Tractor Boys drew 1-1 at home Preston North End on their latest outing. Winger Jack Clarke scored a late penalty against the Lilywhites.

McKenna’s men will be hoping to return to winning ways against Derby County. Their upcoming opponents defeated Bristol City 5-0 at Ashton Gate last time out.
