IPL 2026 Trade: DC refuses to release KL Rahul, trade talks with KKR end

The rumors surrounding KL Rahul’s move to Kolkata Knight Riders have been put to rest. According to a Cricbuzz report, Delhi Capitals have no plans to release their captain before IPL 2026.

Every year before the IPL auction, trade talks become more heated and most of them disappear just as quickly. This time too, there were several big names floating around, from Washington Sundar’s supposed move to Chennai Super Kings to Rahul’s possible move to Kolkata. But it has now been confirmed that both deals will not go ahead.

For a while, there was a lot of buzz around Rahul’s name as KKR were reportedly looking for an experienced keeper-batsman.

There were even talks that Delhi might consider a swap between Tristan Stubbs or Sameer Rizvi, as part of the ongoing discussions over Sanju Samson’s future. But none of that has progressed.

The main problem for Kolkata is that they do not have a player of comparable value to offer. The likes of Rinku Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy remain untouchable for the franchise, while senior stars Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are unlikely to be part of any transaction. That leaves very few options for KKR to work with.

A Delhi Capitals source also dismissed the reports and said there is no reason for the team to release any of their top players. Rahul, who joined DC last season, is expected to remain the captain heading into the next season.
