Yaku Zeg, also known as Jakub Zegzulka, has a feature that could change the way we use our iPhones. His idea is the Lock Screen Mirror. It solves a common problem: the time-consuming process of checking yourself with the front camera. That currently involves unlocking the iPhone, launching the camera app, and switching to the front camera, a seemingly excessive number of steps for such a simple task. Zegzulka’s solution is simple: a long press on the camera icon on the lock screen brings up a mirror-like image of the front camera, so you can quickly check your hair, teeth, or overall appearance without having to scroll through multiple screens.
Mirror on lock screen
I noticed that we all check our view through the front camera, but the flow is slow for that use as you have to open the full camera view and flip the camera every time. So I started exploring different approaches to this. pic.twitter.com/I7QR5HhDWO

The sequence starts with a normal lock screen showing the time, 9:41, on a plain background. A hand holds the phone and a finger hovers over the camera icon in the bottom right corner. As the finger presses down, the screen changes to show a circular frame in the center of the screen that shows a live feed from the front camera. Getting back to the lock screen is just as easy: just release your finger.

Zegzulka’s tech credentials, including work at Apple, Meta and OpenAI, give his idea some weight. His idea meets a universal need: the quick check before a meeting, date or other social engagement. The Lock Screen Mirror doesn’t add new apps or complicate the user interface, it just improves an existing feature. The interaction is simple: long press, check and release.
Apple hasn’t responded to the request yet, but the discussion it sparked shows a need for more deliberate integrations that make the device better without confusing it. Zegzulka didn’t stop at the basic functionality, but also experimented with more advanced features, such as a “sticky” center stage that locks your face in the center of the frame, similar to Apple’s Center Stage for video chats.
