The IOBOA had earlier issued a strike notice calling for the implementation of a series of demands to improve work culture at the public sector bank. This was then taken up for mediation and a meeting took place on 25 February between members of management, IOBOA and the Labor Authorities.
‘Not policy matters’
As shown in the minutes of the meeting, viewed by business lineAt the meeting, both the association and the bank management presented their comments, and the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) stated that the issues raised were not policy issues in nature and thus had to be resolved through bilateral discussions.
The conciliation officer also directed the bank’s management to convene a meeting with the association on or before March 10. The minutes of such meeting should also be forwarded to the Chief Labor Commissioner (Central) for review, they added.
Mutual agreement
During the meeting, the Officers’ Association maintained that various requirements have a direct impact on working conditions, working environment and work-life balance, and called for the formulation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address aspects such as “End-of-Day (EOD) blocking, calling officers on vacation and convening review meetings.”
Both parties then jointly agreed on the following points, including that the IOBOA office will function normally from February 26, subject to mutually agreed standards; no absentee transfers should be made until the bipartite meeting has taken place, and that officers will submit responses to the explanations requested by management within the stipulated time.
