I’m excited to introduce Nested Modules for Divi 5, which will greatly increase the versatility of Divi elements and provide the foundation for an advanced component-based menu builder.
Now you can add modules to other modules, with infinite nestability. Build custom layouts in sliders, tabs, accordions and everything else. Add a button to your menu, place a sign-up form in your blog’s grid, and much more.
This is a powerful upgrade. 💪
Watch the following video to see the new feature in action. 👇
Infinite nestability for all elements
In the settings panel of all native Divi elements, you will find a new Elements option group. Click Add Element to add a new row or module within the current element.
As you can see in the video below, I can add a button to a summary module or build a custom layout using rows in a tabs module. You can even add a slider into a switch in an accordion, which, while completely stupid, illustrates the freedom Divi gives you to build anything.
Each element is a Flex/Grid container
We used semantics to give meaning to structural elements, such as rows and columns. Now any element, including modules, can be a container, and each element comes with the full range of flex and grid settings to control the layout of its child elements.
You can apply flex and grid structure templates to anything. As you can see in the video below, the structure template applied to my pricing table module controls the layout of the pricing table items, just as a row can control the layout of its columns.
A module’s layout options can also determine its original content elements. For example, as shown in the video below, if I want to place the image of a blurb module to the left of the text, all I need to do is set the flex direction to row.
New Flex column options
We’ve added flexible column width options to all elements. If an element is in a flex container, you can quickly use Divi’s pre-made column widths to build a custom layout structure, without having to use math to calculate the optimal width and spacing values.
Improved UI for nested elements
We’ve made it easier to work with nested elements.
- Add and paste top/bottom/inside: First, you’ll find new right-click options to add elements above, below, or within elements on the canvas. You don’t have to click the plus button to add elements; You can use the right-click menu, which gives you more control over where the element is added. The same options are available when pasting, allowing you to paste elements above, below, or into the target element.
- Sortable list interface: The sortable list in the Element options group provides quick access to child elements.
- Improved drag and drop: We’ve also improved Divi’s drag-and-drop system so you can place elements in modules, and improved the drag-and-drop indicators so they work better in grid and flex containers.
Consolidation of grid and flex options
Divi has several modules with their own grid layout options, including the blog, gallery, and portfolio modules. These old “Grid Mode” settings overlap with Divi 5’s new Layout options group, which has a much more extensive set of options.
These legacy grid mode options have been deprecated and migrated to the native grid options of the new layout options group.
Similarly, different modules had unique settings to control the layout orientation, such as the “Form left, content right” option of the email sign-up module.
These options overlap with Divi 5’s flex options in the Layout Options group, and have been deprecated and migrated to map to the original Flex Direction settings of the Layout Options group.
Try Divi 5 today
Nested Modules for Divi 5 is available today and is one of the many features coming to Divi this year.
You can follow us as we move through the final release of Divi 5 and beyond, with updates every two weeks. Depending on your priorities, you can use Divi 5 now or wait until we add more features, whichever works best for you.
We want you to try it, and if you like it, use it; if everyone loves it, we’ll make it official.
The Divi 5 Beta Begins!
Divi 5 has entered public beta, the final phase before its official release.
Divi 5 has been available for new websites for a while, but was missing a number of features that certain existing websites could not do without. These features are complete, meaning sites can migrate all their older Divi 4 modules to the new system and take advantage of the numerous new features we’ve added over the past year.
Give it a try and let us know what you think. We will continue to address your feedback before the official release.
