The contract situation of Artemi Panarin with the New York Rangers has become an interesting topic for debate, especially after a recent update of NHL Insider Frank Seravalli. Seravalli, which is clearly connected but often takes warmth to walk the center of the road in his ‘breaking stories’, this week attracted criticism from fans.

On August 26 with Bleacher report on August 26, Seravalli noted:

“I think there is a deal on the table that is logical for both parties, or will be at a certain moment during this coming season, let’s see how that plays.”

In other words, the Seravalli update was that there was a deal on the table, but maybe it might not be. At a certain point there will be, but that can be at any time this season.

Artemi Panarin Rangers

Many observers were quick to label the comment as vague, and emphasized what some people call one of the most calm offseasons in decades. Fans expressed frustration about insiders who offered ambiguous updates, which reflects the growing impatience around the future of Panarin in New York.

It is not as if Panarin is the only big name that fans look when it comes to their contract extensions. The largest is of course Connor McDavid. There is also Kirill Kaprizov, Kyle Connor, Jack Eichel and others. It is a great list of potential free agents, but the situation of Panarin is intriguing because the Rangers may be open to change.

Other reports about Panarin are there

To be honest, Seravalli is not the only insider who keeps the conversation alive. David Pagnotta recently speculated about the status of Panarin, asking:

“The man I am really curious about with the Rangers is Artemi Panarin; what will happen to him? If it is status quo, do they start to get a head start on trade discussions about Panarin?”

What could play out is little to no updates about Panarin to the NHL trading deadline. He and the team may want to wait and see how things unfold to start the season, giving both parties flexibility to assess the schedule and talk about his future. Panarin’s Cap Hit In a rising salary cap environment, conversations will take a lot into account, as well as how his timeline fits with what is best for the team.

At the age of 33, Panarin remains one of the better attacking threats of the competition. In the past eight seasons he has added 88, 120, 92, 105, 113, 113, 90 and 83 points. That said, the Rangers move pieces and the attacking options shrink around him.

For now, Panarin’s status remains uncertain. Updates seem to be the most speculative.
