Connor Ingram said after earning his first NHL win this season that he thinks the NHL is easier to play than the AHL in some ways. NHL insider Frank Seravalli was one guest on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer and said, “…we hear this a lot from players who have recently played in both. The unpredictable nature and error-laden play that takes place in the AHL” is a factor.
Ingram noted that he is not necessarily quick enough to just react, but he believes he is good at reading the play and predicting what will happen next. He finds playing in the NHL a little easier, which could mean more success with the Oilers than the Bakersfield Condors.
Seravalli explained, “Look, there’s something about Connor Ingram. I think we all knew anyway, even in a perfect season where everyone is playing well, your goalies are going to be thrown into disarray at some point when the Oilers gave him the opportunity to come over from Utah earlier this season and that trade, that you’re ultimately going to use him at some point, but I don’t think anyone would have painted the picture exactly that way, with Tristan Jarry as the guy who’s going to be unavailable for a few weeks, Cal. Pickard didn’t play well and Stuart Skinner in Pittsburgh. So in that sense it was unpredictable.”
“He’ll get a runway job at least for a few weeks,” Seravalli said. He ended with, “I don’t think this is outside the realm of possibility… that [Connor Ingram] He surpasses Calvin Pickard and he is the one who stays.”
Will the Oilers Goaltending Tandem Ingram and Jarry?
Could it really be the case that when all is said and done, the Oilers’ goaltending tandem in Edmonton will be Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram, with Ingram possibly the more stable of the two netminders? It sounds strange, especially where the Oilers were at the start of the season. That said, if things develop in the direction they have, it’s certainly not impossible.
