Infiniti QX80 Track spec and QX80 Terrain Spec are two extreme sides of the same coin – Jalopnik

Infiniti is currently in a difficult place and seems to be in a bit of a “throw things on the wall and see what stops”. Last week the Japanese automaker unveiled the QX80 sport – a vague sporty variant of a huge luxury SUV that I really like. It didn’t seem completely necessary at the time, but now it is clear that it was just a fast taste of what Infiniti was planning to plan his QX80 flagship. The automaker has just pulled the sheets of two draft vehicles: the QX80 track spec and QX80 Terrain spec.

Unveiled on the quail during Monterey Car Week, these two chaotic sisters are meant to push the boundaries of what you can do A huge body-on-frame SUV Like the QX80. Infiniti tells us that the track species is intended as the interpretation of the “Ultimate Performance SUV” by making the beast a “more exciting, targeted performance machine”. On the other hand, we have the terrain spoil, you guessed it about off-roading. More specifically, the mission is aimed at overlanding and it is still a seriously luxurious vehicle.

Follow a QX80

Changing an SUV based on 6000 pounds in a performance vehicle is not a small task, but Infiniti designers and engineers did their damn to make it happen. On the outside, the unique rocker panels, front splitter, Fender has ventilation openings and pre -air inlets. It also removes the reworked schedule from the aforementioned QX80 sport. Afterwards you will find quad outlet points and a rear diffuser, and along the side you will certainly see the 24-inch wheels and fencing torches that facilitate a wider, more aggressive position.

Don’t be fooled. The QX80 Track Spec concept is much more than just an appearance package. In contrast to the sport, Infiniti handed over the engine of the trackspeck again. The 3.5-liter V6 with a Twin-Turbo now has more than 650 hp and 750 pound-foot torque-one increase of 50% in both statistics thanks to new turbula veins and a re-processed exhaust system. It also has a new compressor, an intercooler with a higher capacity, new fuel injectors and RAM air inlet. That is a serious work there. It will also be possible to stop as well as it goes, thanks to enlarged Voorste Brembo brakes.

At the moment Infiniti has not said anything about actual performance statistics, but with an extra 200+ HP I know for sure that it will shorten quite some time from the standard QX80’s 5.3 seconds to 60.

Go where no QX80 has been

A huge, luxurious-oriented SUV is not precisely lends itself to being well off-road, but the engineers of Infiniti were clearly not there by putting on strange spirits together to think of the QX80 Terrain Spec. There are currently few market segments as hot as off-roadters, so it is absolutely logical that Infiniti would baptize his toes in the water.

This truck comes with a larger riding height, off-road wheels wrapped in tires with sites that are covered with a number of pretty extreme fender flares. Moreover, the terrain spoil is equipped with limbs, a light beam mounted on the roof and even a pop-up tent in case you want to torture yourself by sleeping on top of your car.

To make off-road in a rig so large that is a little more manageable, it is equipped with the camera system from Infiniti, including invisible hood. It uses advanced image processing to project an image of what is actually under the vehicle on the middle display. I used this before testing, and to be honest, it is a very neat device. It also comes with your standard 360-degree camera.

There is no word about what kind of powertrain is running with the QX80 -site concept. I doubt a bit that it is the same that you would find in the track spoil, but that’s ok. Not need So much strength as you are off-road, but it would be nice to have, right? I suppose theoretical drivers have to do with the 450 hp and 516 LB-FT torque producing the standard SUV’s engine.

I am not sure if one of these rigs will eventually see the daylight, but I should think that the terrain is all the more realistic for the two. The market for a large off-roader is much larger than that for a full-size performance SUV. But to be honest, I would like to see both trucks enter production. It is not as if Infiniti has anything to lose.
