Infantino urges the world to stand behind Trump and his Council of Peace – Inside World Football

January 23 – FIFA President Gianni Infantino has pledged FIFA’s full support to US President Donald Trump’s new Peace Council.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Infantino said: “FIFA gives its full support to President Trump and all members of the Peace Council. We must support peace. We must unite people.”

On Thursday, Trump launched his peace council, intended to promote peace and determine the future of Gaza. Infantino attended the signing. In recent months, Trump has withdrawn the United States from major international cooperation agreements and organizations and threatened to take control of Greenland before backing down somewhat in a speech in Davos.

However, Infantino’s admiration for the American president remains unchanged. A number of countries on Trump’s peace council also have ties to the FIFA president, including Saudi Arabia. Russia, Egypt and Israel are also mentioned as possible participants in the council. They share non-democratic ideals.

The United Arab Emirates has also joined the Trump administration. Manchester City chairman and head of the City Football Group, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, represented the Gulf state.

Although soccer officials in Europe were reportedly concerned about Trump’s desire to annex Greenland, no officials have criticized Infantino’s continued embrace of Trump and the MAGA movement.

Infantino cheers for the peace administration and puts FIFA in a difficult position.

The Trump-led Peace Council is seen as an attack on the United Nations and the international post-war order. However, after the World Cup in Qatar, as part of its $50 million legacy fund, FIFA signed partnerships with two UN agencies: the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UNHCR.

Trump completed the US withdrawal from the WHO earlier today, reportedly owing the organization $130 million.
