India launches UPI paying system in Qatari Supermarket

Last month, NPCI International Payments LTD (NIPL), in collaboration with Qatar National Bank (QNB), introduced UPI on point-of-sale terminals in Qatar for traders obtained by QNB.

India expanded the range of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) on Monday by launching the facility in the Lulu Group stores in Qatar, after the rollout at tax -free outlets in Hamad International Airport here last month.

The launch of the facility in a Lulu store, Minister of Trade and the Industry Piyush Goyal said it will help facilitate smoother and more cost-effective capital movement between the two countries.

Last month, NPCI International Payments LTD (NIPL), in collaboration with Qatar National Bank (QNB), introduced UPI on point-of-sale terminals in Qatar for traders obtained by QNB.

The rollout is part of a collaboration between NPCI International Payments LTD (NIPL), Qatar National Bank (QNB) and Japanese payments Gateway Netstars.

He also encouraged other banks and institutions in Qatar to accept UPI.

“The launch of UPI and UPI transactions is not only a digital payment solution, but has the potential to bring about a revolution in the trade between Qatar and India. It is an opportunity to expand our trust between the two countries, because we seamlessly seamlessly say the payment systems of Qatar and India,” our people can be able to do more, our people can do more.

He added that the movement of money and capital will be faster, almost in real time, with a “very low” costs.

“Extensive trade will be further strengthened with the approval of UPI … I thank QNB for recording UPI as part of their payment systems,” he said, adding the official launch of UPI Today will be a milestone in this trip in the coming years.

He also said that 8.30,000 Indians who live here will benefit from this launch, because their transfers will become faster and at lower costs.

This makes Qatar the eighth country to accept UPI, facilitating real -time, cash payments for Indians and reducing dependence on foreign currency or international maps.

By making seamless transactions possible, UPI supports both Indian travelers and local Qatari companies, to promote the acceptance of digital payments and strengthen the international financial footprint of India, while the convenience and security for tourists in commercial zones with a lot of traffic increases.

The UPI, said Goyal, was launched nine years ago and it is a great success story in India.

“85 percent of Indian digital payments go through UPI and almost 50 percent of global digital payments are now made by UPI,” he said, adding that an average of 640 million transactions take place every day.

He added that it was great to see that the QNB became the bridge between NPCI, which developed the UPI platform, and Lulu Group, who offers all its customers the facility of digital payment via UPI.
