India has expressed deep concern over the “recent developments” in Venezuela and called on all stakeholders to address the issues peacefully through dialogue.

“India reaffirms its support for the well-being and security of the people of Venezuela. We call on all stakeholders to address issues peacefully through dialogue, thereby ensuring peace and stability in the region,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

On January 3, 2026, US President Donald Trump confirmed that US special forces had captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in a “spectacular attack” in Caracas.

Trump said Maduro and Flores would be transported to New York to stand trial on narcoterrorism and cocaine trafficking charges.

“We are going to govern the country until we can achieve a safe, fair and sensible transition,” the US president said.

The US ‘unilateral military action’ has been criticized by many, including China, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and Mexico. The EU insisted on compliance with international law.

“The recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of great concern. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation,” the MEA said.
