India Women are back in action this month, riding the high of their 2025 ODI World Cup win under Harmanpreet Kaur. They will take on Sri Lanka in a five-match T20I series from December 21, a key step in planning for next year’s T20 World Cup in Britain.
The first two matches will be played on December 21 and 23 in Visakhapatnam. The teams will then move to Thiruvananthapuram for matches on December 26, 28 and 30.
India have made just two changes from their World Cup-winning T20 squad. Radha Yadav makes way for left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma. Seventeen-year-old wicketkeeper G Kamalini replaces Uma Chetry. This keeps the core intact and adds new energy.
The team also exudes shape and confidence. India’s last T20I appearance was a narrow 3-2 win in England. Radha Yadav, Sayali Satghare and Yastika Bhatia are not seen this time, but the mix of youth and experience remains strong.
Sri Lanka arrive with a point to prove. They struggled in the recent ODI World Cup, finishing fifth with one win, three losses and three no results. This tour gives them a chance to reset and start building again.
Harmanpreet Kaur leads a well-known group with Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain. Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh form the experienced core. Newcomers Kamalini and Vaishnavi will try to find a quick solution with the support of the senior players.
The five-match run will also help India test their strength on the test bench. The staff sees this as an ideal piece to try out combinations without losing stability. A member of the lineup said the idea is simple. “We want to stay sharp and be ready for the T20 World Cup.”
