IND vs SA 2025: Nandre Burger sustains a hamstring injury during Raipur ODI

Nandre Burger suffered a hamstring injury during the second ODI of the three-match series between India and South Africa. Early assessments have indicated that the left arm seam, according to ESPNcricinfo, has injured his right hamstring, which could ultimately impact the rest of his season.

Burger lost the run-up twice after delivering the first ball of his seventh over in Raipur. He grimaced in pain as he ran in and just couldn’t land on his right leg. He pulled his right leg in pain and limped off the field with the team physiotherapist. Aiden Markram had to come into the attack to finish off the remaining five deliveries of the 39th over of the innings.

The 30-year-old was not originally announced for the five T20Is that would follow the 50-over leg of the all-format series. Burger, who has been an integral part of the Proteas’ bowling line-up, will not feature in the third and final ODI of the series on Saturday, December 6. Anrich Nortje may return to the T20I XI.

South Africa are already suffering from a depleted pace bowling unit. Kagiso Rabada did not reach the final due to a problem. On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee was not chosen by the selection committee due to fitness issues.

Speaking of Burger, he has suffered from a long list of injuries. This includes a stress fracture in the lower back, which prevented him from playing any form of competitive cricket from October last year until September 2025. He also missed the previous episode of SA20. Joburg Super Kings have re-signed Burger for R6.3 million.

Burger, who took a pair of wickets (2/65 in 10 overs) in the opening match of the series, finished with figures of 1/43 in 6.1 overs in the second ODI. He picked up the wicket of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who was dismissed for a short stay of 14 off 8. Burger had dismissed Rohit after the fifth ball of the fifth over.
