Tensions flared up during the Indian press conference prior to the match prior to their ICC World Cup World Cup 2025 against Pakistan in Colombo, after the demand from a Pakistani reporter about the recent controversy of Asia Cup was blocked by the Indian Media manager.

It is almost a week since India defeated Pakistan in the final of Messrs Asia Cup, but the controversy of that tournament refuses to die. During Saturday’s press, the Indian bowling coach Avishkar Salvi appealed to the media when a journalist from Pakistan tried to raise the Asia Cup drama and asked if the tension between the two nations could influence the women’s game.

Before Salvi could respond, the Indian media manager quickly stepped in and stopped the question and said, “Hello, just a memory, we said we wouldn’t take that first question, so let’s continue to the next one.”

The reporter later revealed that he was planning to ask Captain HarmanPreet Kaur, but decided to continue when Salvi attended the session instead.

The question referred to the controversy of the trophy presentation during the Asia Cup final in Dubai, where India refused to accept the trophy from ACC Chief and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The incident, followed by Naqvi ran away with the trophy, created a storm on social media and deepened the gap between the two parties.
