Irfan highlighted how Kohli found runs regularly in his previous few innings. He also complimented Kohli’s overall fitness and ability to still be effective while stepping out of the crease in an attempt to score aggressively.
“The way Kohli is batting, we can call him ‘Virat consistent Kohli’. In the last seven innings, he has scored three tons and four fifties. He missed a hundred by a whisker in the first ODI and has now amassed 28,000 runs in international cricket. Kohli deserves praise, especially because he gets out regularly at the age of 37. When a batsman gets out regularly, many things can go wrong. But Kohli’s main position is strong and that shows his technique is strong. Your core has to be strong, just like your calves and glutes. Only then can a hitter step out and hit those big shots.
Besides talking about how Kohli went through his innings in Vadodara on January 11, Irfan insisted that future series would be of longer duration so that both he and the entire cricket fraternity can witness Kohli adding to his run count in international cricket.
“He played aggressively at the start but scored only one boundary in the next 50 deliveries when he was set. It’s amazing to see his approach and how he is getting better and better. I think there should be a five-match series or a triangular series so that we can see Kohli score more international runs. I expected him not only to score a ton but also to finish the match. He often does that but couldn’t today,” he added.
Kohli’s knock at the Kotambi Stadium consisted of eight fours and one six. Apart from finding the boundary rope with ease, Kohli could spin the strike at will. Although he was dismissed in the 40th over himself, Kohli’s effort was enough to spark the chase India‘s favor.
The next two matches will be played in Rajkot and Indore on January 14 and 18 respectively. Five T20Is will be played after the 50-over leg ends. The first T20I will start on January 21.
