Raman opined that Samson’s downward movement of the bat has been more or less the same regardless of the pace at which the ball came towards him.
“Sanju Samson will be inconsistent as long as he doesn’t match the speed of his bat to the pace of the ball during the downswing. Simply put, you can’t drive a car at the same speed all the time, everywhere,” Raman shared in a tweet on his official X account.
Talking about Samson’s dismissal in the series opener in Nagpur, the right-handed batsman was caught at midwicket while attempting a seam-up slot delivery. In the subsequent Raipur T20I, the Kerala batsman threw the ball straight into the player’s hands after the ball hit the toe end of his bat. It is worth noting that both his dismissals were quite soft, which was even a topic of discussion among the commentators and the cricket fraternity in general.
India are leading 2-0 in the NZ T20Is
In the meantime, India won both matches to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The Men in Blue won the matches by 48 runs and seven wickets respectively. There will be a lot of eyes on Samson after he underperformed. The 31-year-old, who has also been named in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad, will be keen to improve his performances at the top and complement Abhishek Sharma in a better way.
The third, fourth and fifth T20Is against the BlackCaps will be played in Guwahati, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram respectively. New Zealand has never been defeated India in a T20I series in their backyard. The Suryakumar Yadav-led unit will be keen to clinch the series in the next game and keep their record intact.
