Incoming birthday/holiday cards

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! Yes, it’s my birthday too.

A while back there was a Blog Bat-Around about cards with your birthday number. Because mine is so late in the year, an extra large set is needed to include number 1224 in the checklist. But hey, I’ve collected 3 so far…

A few minor league sets from the 80’s and one from the Conlon Collection.

Gotta love the old TCMA, and I’m actually collecting this Brian Giles as a quirky side PC for my big PC from the better known Brian Giles.

And I ripped a lot of those blue ’89 ProCards packs back in the day. I started collecting in 1990, so they were “older” and I was looking for the bright newbies of the ’90s, and yes, even Mark Gardner had some hype and went on to a respectable MLB career, where he stuck around through the 2001 season.

I don’t have much to say about Joe Bowman, but he was probably cool too. I think I threw these cards in my Sportlots cart months ago and finally placed orders with the respective sellers. Has anyone ordered anything from Sportlots lately? Within the last week or so I was taken to a new “improved” shopping cart, which doesn’t allow you to separate between sellers. Not cool! Is it just me, like maybe I have too many cards in my cart, or have they really screwed up their cart interface? That would be a shame if they messed up so quickly after COMC also took a turn for the worse. There are almost no good online big ticket stores left! šŸ™

The backs. The number on the Giles is in small text after the copyright.

Now for some incoming cards that some bloggers sent to brighten up my holiday.

First of all, a nice package from Dennis arrives TMV. Sorry about this, photos are dark by the way. I took them last night, knowing that the 24th and 25th would be printings, but I was able to sneak in some blog time with the fam. (We’re keeping time limited.) But hey, one thing I asked for this year is a light box, so I’m hopeful that I’ll step up my card photography game soon. But hey, here’s a cute quad relic from Marcus Lattimore #’d 12/25 with a pinstriped Gavin Sheets relic.

Gavins!

More Gavins!

Good stuff. Thanks, Dennis! Very nice of you to keep up with the series of holiday mailings in which I included the happiness. I’ll call you back soon with a thank you.

Below are some signed cards from Japan. 2011 Topps is a favorite modern design for me, and Neshek is a PC guy.

And a few Bowman cards, including a few former Padres that I’ve been rooting for over the years.

Thank you, Zippy! Merry Christmas, even if this wasn’t specifically intended as a holiday surprise.

Finally, Bob comes from Best bubble surprised me with a Christmas card package.

I have to pay the Gavin Tax if you send me cards, lol. Nice change here.

This trio of dapper, off-the-beaten-path Tony Gwynns was perhaps the highlight for me.

More Padres, including some cars.

Attractive ladies!

The backs.

More sweet girls.

Thank you very much, Bob! I’ve been working on a package for you and I hope I get it shipped soon.

Thanks again to these people for the cards, and happy holidays to everyone who reads. If I can find the time to type it out, I’ll try to post a Christmas post tomorrow.
