It doesn’t matter what position Shang Juncheng was in, he felt pain in his right foot. Whether the Chinese #nextgenatp star recorded, sat or walked, he suffered from it. If the Lefty accidentally hit his foot, it would “hurt pretty bad”.
“Sometimes I woke up in the middle of the night and started to hurt and I had to walk around a bit to circulate [it]”Shang Atptour.com told on Saturday prior to his return to action at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers after six months away.” It wasn’t the best moment. ”
Shang started his season in Hong Kong, where he reached the semi -final before he withdrew against Kei Nishikori. He then achieved fewer than two sets in the first round of the Australian Open against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before boosting himself.
“In Australia I struggled with it pretty badly. We thought it was a bone button or something, [and we thought] That it wasn’t that serious, “Shang said.” But after a month it might still do the same. Sometimes it would hurt more and I would have resting pain if I slept, so I had something like: “Wow, this might go in that direction”. ”
Shang referred to surgery. Through Indian Wells he decided to compete in the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the season or visit a foot specialist. Shang did the last one and has been improving since he was operated on on 5 March.
“The pain went away differently than the cutting with the scalpel. Of course with the medication in the beginning, it helped a lot,” Shang said. “But after I rehabilitated when I rehabilitated, I hurt a little here and there. When you walked, you were always a bit afraid that something could break, because it doesn’t feel like it’s yours.
“In general it has been really good. I am happy that I have had a good time at home, spend time with my family, and my physio Charlie is great. He played a major role in this rehabilitation.”
The former number 47 player in the PIF ATP ranking benefited from six months in Florida. “It is clear that the golf game has improved a lot at the time,” Shang said, laughing.
But more importantly, it was an opportunity to spend time with family and do things that players don’t always have time while competing on the ATP tour. There was enough Harry Potter – ‘Jerry’ spent time reading the books when watching the films. He laughed on Saturday and thought of the popular character Ronald Weasley, which resulted in an enchantment that failed a counterproductive, causing him to spit naked snails.
It was not until the beginning of April that Shang Tennis started playing and he was not comfortable on the field afterwards. The pain had disappeared by Roland Garros.
“That is when I realized, look, this foot thing is set and everything we need to do is come back in shape and find the match rhythm, and I will be fine for the tournaments,” Shag said. “I think the most exciting part is that there is no pain and I happily play on the field. It doesn’t matter what the results are.
“I am just happy to play a few tournaments that are left behind this year, which is not much. But I get my favorite part of the season, which is at home, immediately after the US open. So everything is, I think, positive.”
Shang, who had a broad smile on his face in the lounge of the players on Saturday, will return to a qualification on Sunday in Toronto. It will only be his sixth game of the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
“The rhythm on tour is clearly very different from when you are practicing. When coaches feed your balls, the rhythm is completely different … there is a lot to play for [on Tour] And I just [have] Very positive feelings to be back, “Shang said.” And the most important thing is again for me, is just enjoying because I have not played that long, from just two tournaments this year. To play my first as 1000, I think it is very special to be here in Toronto. ”
