In the midst of a growing controversy about the power outage during the Karur meeting of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief Vijay, a letter was surfaced showing that the party had asked for a temporary electricity closing to maintain public safety. The rally on Saturday saw a rush that claimed 41 lives, including women and children, and left more than 60 people injured.
Officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (EB) confirmed that a request was submitted by TVK for a temporary rotation exclusion but was refused. Rajalakshmi, chief engineer and district west secretary, said that the letter had been received from the TVK, with reference to the large crowd expected in Veluchamipuram on Erode Road after midnight on September 27, 2025, but the request was rejected.
Government sources said the letter asked that electricity was only eliminated while Vijay spoke to guarantee public safety. “Since Veluchamipuram is a busy area and a large crowd of people will come, I humble you to only switch off the electricity for the specified time when the leader speaks, given the safety of the public,” the letter was.
TVK -sources have claimed that the malfunction was part of a conspiracy. “The incident was designed by the police and the local politician with the illegal relationship with the local gohondas,” said a party source.
Which eyewitness India told today
Eyewitnesses told India today that there was a power outages from 7 pm to 7.30 pm. According to Vinod Kumar, brother -in -law of one of the victims, a family waited from four to late in the evening to see Vijay, lovingly called ‘Vijay Mama’ by his fans. “It was very late, but they wanted to see Vijay once. There was a current cut from 19 to 19:30, and the crowd rose just before his arrival. My sister -in -law and her two children, 11 and 7 years old, died on the spot. The older child and younger was trouble breathing and was separated from their mother,” he said. Postmortem reports confirmed suffocation.
On Sunday, the government of Tamil Nadu claimed that there was no momentum at the location, in contrast to the claims of TVK that the food was cut when Vijay reached the rally location. The facts check unit of the Tamil Nadu government said in a post on X on Monday: “There was no rapid raping at the event. Although the TVK party had requested a power supply, such a rapids did not take place. The short dimming of a few lights was only due to a generator problem in the schemes of the party.” The district collector and the ADGP have also issued comparable clarifications.
