Alex Noren has made a late indictment this summer to try to force his way to Team Europe for the Ryder Cup 2025 at Bethpage Black. The Swede, who missed the first few months of the season due to a 90 percent tear of his hamstring, bought a T7 on the 3M Open and a T3 at the Wyndham championship before he won the British Masters in the Belfry last month.
But in the end Noren did not make the cut and instead he was mentioned as a vice captain to help Captain Luke Donald on Long Island later this month.
However, as is usually the case after the picks of the Ryder Cup captain have been made, a reason for second councils arose this week at the BMW PGA championship of the DP World Tour in Wentworth Golf Club. With 11 of the 12 members of Team Europe in the field this week, many weekend fireworks between people like Rory McIlroy – Vers of his Irish Open -victory – Jon Rahm, Ludvig Åberg and others.
Instead, Noren brought his A-Game to Wentworth and eventually defeated Adrian Saddier on the first play-off Sunday to win his second BMW PGA Championship title and 12th career win on the DP World Tour. Norwegian increase in play was partly encouraged by his desire to make his first Ryder Cup team since 2018, but he admits that it is a place he did not earn, and Donald was right to take his six choices – Shane Lowry, Viktor Hblemand, Åberg, Rahm and Roster – to fill the.
“I think we have a great team and I think it’s the right 12 boys playing,” Noren said Sunday after winning the BMW. “I showed a good shape, but it was the wrong moment, and I didn’t really show the shape I had to show when I started playing, and too many bad tournaments in the middle of the season. Much better the last six starts.”
Asked if he intended to bring his clubs to Bethpage Black in case team Europe she needed, smiled Noren and immediately turned on the hat of his vice captain. His clubs will have to wait until 2027 to see Ryder Cup promotion again.
‘I take my clubs this time, but take [them] Florida’s home base, “said Noren.” I think the other boys have played better all year round than me. I have had a great result in the past month, but it was a bit too late. I think the boys in the team will be fantastic. ‘
Regarding the members of Team Europe, Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor HOvland, the final round arrived with the opportunity to charge the rankings and challenge Norwegians for the trophy, but neither of them could deposit the accelerator pedal on Sunday to catch the Swede. Hatton shot a final round 2 under 70, while HOVOLAND shot a 69. They finished in a draw for the fifth at 15, four shots back from Norwegians and Saddier. Fitpatrick also finished T5.
McIlroy meanwhile moved through the first three rounds before he made five birdies and two eagles to shoot a 7-under 65 on Sunday and ended in a draw for 20th next to Åberg.
“There is a lot of talk and a lot of talks and a lot of thinking about the Ryder Cup,” said McIlroy after his last round. “But you still want to play well this week. I saw a glimpse of that.
Rahm carded a 66 on Sunday to end up for the 13th. The two -time large champion needed a pick from a Donald captain after he had not secured enough points at large championships after his move to Liv Golf. Despite the defect, Rahm remains a fundamental part of Team Europe. Combining his four cushion with Hatton was powerful during the 2023 victory of Europe in Rome, and he could be asked for Herder Rookie Rasmus Hojgaard around Bethpage in two weeks around Bethpage.
Further on the rankings, Tommy Fleetwood, who just won the Tour Tour Championship, and Shane Lowry ended in a draw for 46th. Justin Rose finished T61. Robert Macintyre and Hojgaard missed the cut.
Team Europe is now going to Bethpage for a team scouting trip on Monday and Tuesday. After that, the team will break a few days before it has joined Long Island to the event at the event that has included all oxygen in the golf world since McIlroy won the Masters to complete the Grand Slam career.
They will be sure that they can become the first team since the Europe “Miracle at Medina” team 2012 to get on the ground.
“Wouldn’t be the first time that wonders happened twice,” said Rahm Sunday. “I have to have faith. I think we play well enough and we are a good and strong enough team to cope with what we encounter at Bethpage and hopefully end with the cup.”
“I keep saying this: we have a huge opportunity to do something that not many Ryder Cup teams say they have done it,” said McIlroy on Wednesday. “But I think we all know that it will be very, very difficult, and you not only play 12 American golfers. You also try to get past the crowd, and that is the same that they feel when we come here and play in Europe. It certainly gives you a bit of a built -in advantage to start the week, but that would not want to overcome it. That we are all very, very enthusiastic for that opportunity.
