According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail during the morning and night hours over north and central India over the next seven days. For Monday (January 5), the IMD has issued a cold day warning for parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar and western Madhya Pradesh.
The IMD has further said that a cold wave is expected to occur in the states of Punjab and Haryana along with Chandigarh city from Monday. For the capital Delhi, the IMD has forecast mostly clear skies on Monday, but said shallow fog is likely to develop in many parts of the city. According to the weather department, the temperature in Delhi on Monday is expected to range between 7 and 19 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi has improved slightly, with an overall reading of 248, which falls in the ‘poor’ category, on Sunday morning (January 4).
Warning for rain and snowfall
According to a report by India Today, Devendra Tripathi, weather expert and founder of Mausam Tak said, “Tomorrow, on January 5, in the mountains of northern India, between Kashmir and Uttarakhand, some clouds may develop in the evening.” He added that there is a possibility of some snowfall in the evening in Himachal Pradesh and “in the very higher parts of Uttarakhand.”
