Bob Macintyre from Scotland admits that he will not be afraid to attack Royal Portrush this weekend if he gets the chance to win the Open Championship.
The left -handed Oban shot a sizzling 66, including six birdies in the second round of Friday to push him from level par to five.
It left him behind a group of players who chased the new leader Scottie Scheffler, who illuminated the tournament with an incredible 64 to go one for Matt Fitzpatrick on at Under.
Macintyre, 28, narrowly missed a first big title during last month’s US Open in Oakmont after winner JJ Spaun had organized a monster putt on the last hole.
His second place, however, not only increased his world ranking to 14 but also his trust.
“I am not afraid. I am not going back. It is completely different from Oakmont,” said Macintyre van Portush in Noord -Ireland, where he was bound on his open debut in 2019.

“Oakmont, I couldn’t roll the dice. It was never: “Let’s print, let’s print”. It was always: “Right, let’s go here with Pars”.
‘This week, hopefully I will be 69th, 70th hole, I have a chance. If I have a chance, I will roll it.
‘I have so much more confidence and so much more conviction that I am good enough.
‘I clearly succeeded in finishing the top 10 in Majors, but I have never participated.
‘In the PGA championship this year I was right in the mix. There was a lot going on on Saturday, Sunday and I fell away, but I had so much confidence in that I was at that level now.
‘Oakmont happens clearly, what gives you a boost. I feel like the last three Majors, I put myself in a good position after 36 holes.
“I’m in a good place. I feel happy, confident, comfortable. I go outside and give it my best shot all the way until Sunday afternoon. ‘
With a Birdie Blitz including consecutive winnings at 12 and 13, the only Blip of Macintyre was a bogey on the PAR-three 16th.

“I just tried to minimize yesterday’s mistakes and I almost had the ball in full control,” he said. “In general it was two solid days ago.”
The Englishman Fitzpatrick also shot 66, but follows Scheffler through a shot after the World No1 a round together with eight birdies including successive win on 5, 6 and 7, as well as 16 and 17 on his last piece.
Brian Harman and Haotong Li are still a shot behind him, while Macintyre is one of a group that follows Scheffler through five shots, including Rasmus Hojgaard, Tyrrell Hatton, Harris English and Scottish Open winner Chris Gotterup.
Local hero Rory Mcilroy is still in the mix after photographing 69.
