Im Bobby, a brilliant beginner, was in front of half the field early on, while second favorite Ollivici also emerged around the field early outside the 30 yards.
Gotfeelingsyouknow, which also had good support, found the early lead. Coming in for the bell lap, Ollivici made a strong challenge for the lead, but just as he was about to move into a clear lead, he started racing roughly and broke apart. Although he didn’t lose much ground, which effectively helped his chances.
In the meantime, James Herbertson sat patiently on Im Bobby and he made a devastating sprint down the back straight to charge straight past Gotfeelingsyouknow and pull away to win by just over ten meters from Gotfeelingsyouknow, with Link In Bio finishing a fair third.
IM BOBBY DEC 20 REPETITION
Olovici was subjected to a veterinary inspection after the event.
Herbertson was full of praise for Im Bobby
You can’t ask more of him. Every time he gets out, we go to war, we win the war, or we get a check. This horse just comes from small beginnings, for a long time he was just a country horse. Something clicked and he turned into the horse he is today. And he’s just an animal. He just loves racing. He’s a quirky person, that’s for sure.
I wanted to be behind Ollivici, that’s what I wanted last week, but that just didn’t work. Tactically it worked out perfectly tonight.
Im Bobby received a score of 1.58.4 for the ride, including a smooth final quarter of 28.8 seconds. Owned and trained by Eddie Tappe from Congupna near Shepparton, Im Bobby has had 98 starts for 20 wins and 28 placings for $225,890 in stakes money.
As one of the most improved trotters in the state, Im Bobby will look to step up in the major trotting races, but he will certainly face a formidable task against the likes of Keayang Zahara and The Locomotive.
