UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria has responded to a call from Arman Tsarukyan in the wake of UFC Qatar.
In the main event of UFC Qatar last night, Arman Tsarukyan put on a truly impressive performance as he dispatched Dan Hooker. In doing so, he seemingly jumped straight into contention for a 155-pound world title opportunity. He then mentioned Ilia Topuria in his post-fight interview, continuing a story that has seen the two go back and forth on social media in recent months.
As you can imagine, Ilia Topuria currently has plenty of options at its disposal. He also seems more than happy to take on just about anyone the UFC puts in front of him – but it’s worth noting that he’s turned down Arman’s case more than once. Who knows, now that he has returned to action and done so with a convincing victory, he will be convinced that this is the right next step for him.
In one recent tweetIlia Topuria had some interesting words for Tsarukyan as fans and pundits continue to speculate about what exactly the UFC will do next in the lightweight title picture.

“Arman, every time we see each other in person, you freeze like a scared duck with no idea what to do. You know I’ll deal with you however I want. I’ll fight whoever the UFC picks. And remember, I punched you and you just laughed, and then you act like a gangster. So keep going, you’re on the right track… just a few levels below me, boy.”
Clearly things are looking pretty crowded at the top of the lightweight rankings. In addition to Tsarukyan, there is a chance that Topuria will also have to face Paddy Pimblett or Justin Gaethje. Additionally, Dana White may have one eye on a potential superfight between ‘El Matador’ and Islam Makhachev, which fans have been waiting for for a while.
Whatever the case, things are starting to take shape.
