It was another night when Anfield roared and a young right-back answered every question put to him.

Conor Bradley’s exceptional performance in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League drew admiration from Ian Wright and Jill Scott – and famous criticism from Roy Keane.

Speaking about Stick to football The Overlap’s YouTube channelFormer Arsenal striker Ian Wright was full of admiration for the 22-year-old’s performance against Vinicius Jr.

Wright said: “That’s what you want. You want to see him against a winger like that because then that takes him to a different place in terms of his confidence.” He did everything last night.

“It was brilliant to see. Fantastic to see against one of the best wingers.”

Jill Scott echoed that sentiment, simply adding: “Conor Bradley. Wow. He was brilliant.”

Those words of praise come after Virgil van Dijk described Bradley as “excellent” after the win, underscoring how highly the young full-back is thought of in the Liverpool dressing room.

There was another moment of camaraderie within the squad as Jeremy Frimpong cheekily praised Bradley’s performances. “lockdown” job on Vinicius in the comments of his post-match Instagram update.

But not everyone was completely satisfied. Roy Keane, ever the perfectionist, highlighted one area that could be improved.

“Yes. Defensively, yes,” said Keane. “But he still missed picking out that last pass. He got into good positions last night. You’re still looking for that.”

The Irishman claimed our number 12 should look more like Trent Alexander-Arnold and add more attacking influence to his game, apparently reluctant to praise our academy graduate for what was a brilliant performance.

Bradley’s defensive numbers told a story of dominance, regardless of Keane’s comments.

According to to electLiverpool limited Real Madrid to just 0.45 expected goals – the lowest figure in more than a year – with the Northern Irishman central to that solidity on our right.

With the Reds climbing back up the Premier League and looking dangerous in Europe again, it’s clear we’ve found a right-back for the future.
