UFC welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry shut down a potential showdown with former teammate Leon Edwards following their upcoming fights.
Top UFC welterweights Ian Machado Garry and Leon Edwards were training partners earlier in their careers, but things quickly got messy after Garry left Edwards’ team.
Garry and Edwards, who both return to the Octagon in separate fights next month, are both top contenders in the welterweight title mix. Garry takes on Belal Muhammad in the co-main event of UFC Qatar, while Edwards looks to snap a two-fight skid against Carlos Prates at UFC 322.
Edwards has repeatedly claimed that Garry was kicked out of his gym for violating a series of team rules, including being late to practices. Garry has strongly denied the allegations.
In fact, Garry is now refusing to fight Edwards due to the claims being made against him.

In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani ShowGarry went out on his former teammate.
“I have no need, no interest, for him to ever make money off me by doing all the hard work to be the more interesting fighter, and for him to get a financial benefit in any way,” Garry said of Edwards.
“If he was willing to fight me, all or nothing, I would fight him right away because I would make sure he would leave there completely unconscious and unconscious and then leave without any benefit.
“I never want to see him and his team again… They lied and I don’t like liars… I will have a Brazilian flag on my shoulders on November 15, cheering on Carlos Prates and watching him knock Leon Edwards unconscious.”
At the time of writing, Edwards has not responded to Garry’s comments. He hasn’t competed since losing to Sean Brady at UFC London earlier this year.
Garry and Edwards are part of a busy title mix in the welterweight division, and a future matchup could come to fruition. But don’t expect things to be cordial between the former teammates.
