Ian Machado Garry posted a cryptic message on Threads that has the MMA community excited.

It’s no secret that the Irishman next wants to fight newly minted UFC welterweight champion and pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev. Recently, ‘The Future’ called out Makhachev again, first by praising the Dagestani phenomenon and then claiming that Makhachev may be the greatest, but once he dethrones the Russian fighter, people’s perspective on Garry as a fighter will change. In a recent video on his social media he said:

“Islam Makhachev is one of the greatest fighters walking the planet today. The number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, a two-weight world champion, a former Sambo and European world champion… If you beat Islam, it will change the way everyone in the world thinks about you, and I’m going to do that.”

Now, Ian Machado Garry has dropped another message, suggesting that Islam Makhachev’s manager Ali Abdelaziz may have turned down a match between Makhachev and Garry. ‘The Future’ posted on Topics:

“Someone’s manager sounds like he’s worried 👀”

Abdelaziz believes ‘The Future’ doesn’t deserve a title shot and has vowed to attack Kamaru Usman so the latter gets the chance instead.

Meanwhile, Islam Makhachev is expected to make his first title defense after Ramadan, with rumors suggesting he will fight Michael Morales.

However, Ian Machado Garry has scored back-to-back wins over Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad in 2025. ‘The Future’ has just one defeat on his MMA record, which came against former training partner Shavkat Rakhmonov in 2024. The Irishman has also taken a step further in the short term and proven that he is a real businessman.

Although his recent wins haven’t been victories, Garry is a very calculated fighter who gave ‘Nomad’ real problems. Since Rakhmonov and Islam Makhachev share similar fighting styles, Garry could also be a problem for the P4P king.
