Rana revealed that during his early days in cricket, he faced rejection for almost a decade. He attended several trials, but was not selected anywhere. He often returned home in tears and admitted that he considered giving up several times. However, it was his father’s constant encouragement and faith that motivated him to continue and pursue his dream.
“I now know how to deal with failure. I have seen those ten years where nothing happened. I went to court cases and my name did not come up. I came back and cried every day in front of my father. So now I think that failure is over; whatever comes, I can handle it. I had given up. But my father literally kept pushing me,” Rana said in a podcast on MensXP.
The right-arm pacer also named Indian veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as his favorite batters to bowl to. He revealed that both players challenged him in the nets, pushing him to perform at his best and helping him improve his skills.
“Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma. Even when I bowl to them easily, there is a competition when they come to bat in the nets, and they challenge me to do things, so I also come at my peak to bowl,” Rana said.
Rana has also made his debut for India in all three formats. He has taken 34 wickets in 21 innings and scored 127 runs in 11 innings with the bat across formats. In the ongoing New Zealand series so far, he has collected three wickets and also contributed 31 runs with the bat.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rana represents Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and has claimed 40 wickets in 32 innings. The third and final ODI between India and New Zealand is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
