Oliver Glasner has reflected on the defeat against Newcastle 2 Crystal Palace 0.
In the match on Sunday at 3pm at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe’s team win with two goals in the second half.
Bruno Guimaraes and Malick Thiaw gave Newcastle United a deserved three points.
Oliver Glasner stated after the final whistle: “A disappointing defeat, disappointing result.”
On his only previous visit to St James’ Park, Crystal Palace lost 5-0, an improvement of sorts.
Oliver Glasner not happy with Newcastle United’s goals following the pattern of recent matches: “The most disappointing thing for me is that we are conceding two more goals from set plays. In five of our last six defeats we have just conceded goals from set plays, and then you can’t win games anymore. This is what we have to sort out.”
By the end of the match, Newcastle United had managed seven shots on target and Dean Henderson made some great saves, while NUFC had a couple of ‘goals’ denied for offside, one of which was very marginal.
At the other end, all Nick Pope had to do was keep a clean sheet, with his defense doing a great job for him.
Despite this, Oliver Glasner was positive about many aspects of the competition: “It’s always a second phase where we’re not really structured and then we start conceding goals, because there are a lot of parts of the game that I was very happy with today. I think we played very well. Apart from maybe the last five, six, seven minutes, when we went all in to get our goal, we didn’t give them any chances from open play to do that. We defended very well. On the other hand, we created some good situations, with a big chance just before half-time.”
The Crystal Palace boss was also happy with how the club’s new record signing Brennan Johnson had played in his first game: “He showed what he would bring to the team. Of course, in a few situations I could see that his understanding with his teammates was not there after one day of training, while he has trained with only half of the group, but he will definitely help us in the games. I was satisfied with his debut and performance today.”
