And while his return to training is a welcome boost for Mikel Arteta and his team, there is sufficient depth in the position this season after Crithian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie were signed as cover for Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
That said, it would not be a surprise if the Frenchman on the road from Arsenal to San Mames misses one of the Champions League on competition day while taking Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday evening.
Mosquera would not only have a regular point of minutes under his belt, but after extensive playing in La Liga, his recording in the starting eleven would benefit Arsenal at the back.
Ideally, Arteta Saliba would like to call for next weekend’s Premier League collision against Manchester City and it is still to see whether he gives enough training to start against the men of Pep Guardiola.
