Nationalist Congrraved Party (Sharad Pawar Faction) Chief Sharad Pawar claimed on Saturday that the Government of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) had ignored his warning about the possible abuse of the prevention of money laundering (PMLA).
Speaking at the launch of Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s book ‘Narkatala Swarg“(Heaven in Hell), Pawar said that the action was used by the government -led government to direct opposition leaders through the Directorate Directorate (ED).
Pawar remembered that it was part of the UPA cabinet when the proposal to change the PMLA was put forward by the then Minister of Finance P Chidambaram. “I met and warned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that it could be abused,” he said.
“After 2014, the BJP government used the same act to send Chidambaram and many other opposition leaders to prison in fake cases. MP Sanjay Raut and Anil Deshmukh were the victim of this law,” he said.
Pawar emphasized that under the UPA government, although nine opposition leaders were in charge of PMLA, none were arrested. Under the current NDA government, on the other hand, 19 Leaders of parties such as Congress, AAP, DMK, RJD, TMC and others have been the target.
Tackeray criticized the current administration and described it as an “autocratic” regime that “had changed heaven like India into hell” through the abuse of central research agencies.
The event also saw the presence of Shiv Sena (UBT) Chef UDDHAV Thakkeray, the renowned copywriter Javed Akhtar, and Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale, who came to Pawar when the book launched his 101 days in the prison in 2022.
Javed Akhtar praised Raut for his ‘fearless expression’, because he did not surrender to pressure.
