Hyundai Palisade seat belt recall ends investigation

The Hyundai Palisades’ seat belt buckles unlocked without warning.

– A Hyundai Palisade seat belt recall and warranty extension have concluded a federal investigation into the Palisade seat belt buckle failure in 2020-2023.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation in August 2024 after dozens of complaints about Hyundai Palisade seat belts loosening.

More than 332,000 Hyundai Palisades have been included in the seat belt investigation after customers complained that the seat belts were unlocked without warning.

A big problem is the location of the seat belts, usually on the second row seats where child seats are installed.

An unlocked seat belt buckle is the same as no seat belt at all.

Hyundai has announced a seat belt buckle warranty extension (Z06) amid the federal investigation covering 2020-2025 Palisade SUVs. Hyundai also began collecting seat belt parts related to warranty claims so that seat belt supplier ZF Lifetec could analyze the buckles.

The Palisade Seat Belt Buckle Extension Warranty covers the buckles for 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Additionally, Hyundai has issued a recall for 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisades due to the front and second row seat belt buckles. Hyundai and the supplier identified problems with the closing channels, especially in cold weather.

According to NHTSA, Hyundai’s actions should correct the problems with the Palisade seat belt buckle, but safety regulators say they will continue to monitor the results of the repairs.
