Israel recently denied less humanitarian movements, but approved missions “still take hours to complete and teams are forced to wait for roads that are often dangerous, overburdened or impassable”, the UN assistance coordination office Ocha said in his last update.
Between 6 and 12 August, humanitarians made 81 attempts to coordinate planned movements with the Israeli authorities, including to transfer fuel and staff.
Challenges to help the delivery
Of this number, 35 were facilitated, 29 were initially approved, but then 12 were imposed on the ground, 12 were refused and five had to be withdrawn by the organizers.
14 of the missions that had had to deal with obstacles, however, continued.
Almost three years have elapsed since the hostilities in Gaza broke out after the attacks on Israel led by Hamas, making around 1200 people dead.
About 250 others – both Israelis and foreigners – were taken hostage. It is believed that 50 people are still being held in Gaza, including some who have been declared dead.
Desperate times, desperate measures
Honing in the enclave is now at the highest level since the conflict began, according to The World Food Program (WFP).
The update quotes the Gaza Health Authorities that have documented 235 malnutrition-related deaths, including 106 childrenFrom August 13.
Despite the distribution of hunger, the King’s cellons are limited every day and continue to venture while the trucks travel through the war destroyed by war.
“In addition, Desperate bustle often discharges food supplies from trucks to feed their families – while looting also prevents help from achieving intended destinations“Said Ocha.
Last month, WFP collected 1,012 trucks that transport nearly 13,000 tons of food from the Kerem Shalom and Zikim border transitions with Israel. Only 10 arrived in warehouses and the rest was discharged on the way.
Food aid risks spoil
Although WFP and partners have sufficient food in the region or go there to feed all 2.1 million people in Gaza for at least three months, “the risk of spoilage and contamination of the stranded food stocks has increased considerably, and some of them are approaching their expiry dates.”
Humanitarians continue to insist on more help and commercial goods to be admitted to Gaza. Although more food comes in, the quality and quantity remain insufficient to meet the enormous needs.
From 10 August, 81 community kitchens prepared 324,000 individual meals daily – a “noticeable increase” compared to the 259,000 daily meals prepared two weeks ago, but far under the more than a million daily meals that were distributed in April.
The heat is on
In the meantime, a heat wave makes the conditions much worse, because Gaza is currently experiencing temperatures that surpass 40 ° C or 104 ° F.
Un Palestine Refugee Agency Nerrente Warned that dehydration increases due to the very limited available water.
As part of the continuous efforts to help Gaza’s people, UNRWA has given emergency water, sanitary and hygiene services to around 1.7 million people since the start of the war.
