Hull City pick up new injury, 24-year-old ruled out for up to two months News: The72 – Football League News

Hull City left-back Matty Jacob has been ruled out for two months due to an MCL injury. Sergej Jakirovic said.

Hull City will be looking to continue their push for promotion as we enter the final third of the season. It was a fantastic campaign for HCAFC, which sits in fifth place.

Sergej Jakirovic however, will demand a response from his Tigers side this weekend. They come into the QPR match on the back of back-to-back defeats in all competitions, losing to Bristol City in the league before beating Chelsea 4-0.

Hull City boss Jakirovic has not had an easy time with injuries, and things are not slowing down. Ahead of the game against the Hoops, the Bosnian boss confirmed that Matty Jacob will be dealing with an MCL injury for up to eight weeks.

‘We have a problem with Matty Jacob,’ he said Hull Live. “Matty had a non-contact injury during Tuesday’s training and is a grade 2 MCL injury, so we will be without him for six to eight weeks. It means we have lost an option at left full-back.”

Jacob, a Hull City Academy graduate, has been back in the first-team picture in recent weeks. He spent the first half of the season on loan in League One with Reading, but an injury ended his stay.

Since then he has appeared at the MKM Stadium, playing in five of the last six championship matches. Jacob started the 0-0 draw against Watford in early February and made four further appearances as a substitute.

Jacob had hoped to hold down a place for the rest of the campaign to force his way into Jakirovic’s plans for the future. Unfortunately, an injury will disrupt his efforts, potentially keeping him out until the end of the season.

After citing an absence of six to eight weeks, Jakirovic hopes Jacob can return sooner rather than later.

Who does Hull City have as a left back?

What is perhaps worrying for Jakirovic is that he now only has one natural left back.

Ryan Giles has been the first choice all season, while Jacob has recently acted as a more defensive alternative. However, the demand for the creative left side has increased with this new injury.

James Furlong made a permanent move earlier this month and Brandon Williams was released. It means Jakirovic will have to turn to academy options or a player who is not in position to replace Giles if push comes to shove.

Akin Famewo is the most likely candidate as he can play as a left back or centre-back. Nevertheless, the HCAFC boss hopes to avoid more injuries.

It’s up to Giles to keep the place locked until Jacob returns. Famewo will be there as cover, but with a pile of injuries, Jakirovic will just hope his players can stay fit.
