At least seven people have been killed in a mass shooting in a remote community in northeastern British Columbia
</p><div><p data-start="143" data-end="206">Several people, including the suspected attacker, were killed after a mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in northeastern British Columbia on Tuesday afternoon, according to police and multiple media reports.</p><p data-start="572" data-end="829">The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to the rural high school shooting around 1:20 p.m. local time and issued a local emergency alert ordering residents to shelter in place.</p><p data-start="831" data-end="1083">Six people were found dead inside the school building, while another victim died while being transported to the hospital, authorities said confirmed. Two more people were found dead in a home believed to be linked to the incident.</p><p data-start="1085" data-end="1292">The suspected shooter died at the scene. The RCMP said the person was found with what was believed to be a self-inflicted injury. Early emergency alerts described the suspect as a woman in a dress with brown hair, although police did not immediately release a confirmed identity.</p><p data-start="1294" data-end="1514">Local medical facilities are treating dozens of people for injuries, although the severity of most injuries has not yet been released. Media reports indicate that about 25 people are being examined at the local medical center.</p><p data-start="1516" data-end="1784">The RCMP mobilized additional officers from nearby detachments and the North District Emergency Response Team. After several hours of response activity, the shelter-in-place order was lifted around 6:45 p.m. and residents were allowed to resume normal activities.</p><p data-start="1786" data-end="2058">Tumbler Ridge is a remote community of approximately 2,400 residents. Local leaders and residents described the community as <em>'close bond',</em> and faith leaders and mental health professionals are offering support to families affected by the tragedy.
