Pete Hegseeth is confronted with accusations of incorrectly classified information that is linked to bomb attacks in Yemen
The Pentagon is at war with his own chef, Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth, according to spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt of the White House.
In an interview with Fox and friends on Monday, Leavitt confirmed the full confidence of US President Donald Trump in the leadership of Hegseeth.
“This is what happens when the entire Pentagon works against you and works against the monumental change that you are trying to implement,” she said. President Trump’s government has risen to defend Hegseeth after a report from the New York Times published last Sunday that accused him of sharing sensitive information about operations in Yemen with his wife and brother, who had no security authorization.
The NYT article is tangential related to the ‘Signalgate’ scandal, which broke out in March after the Atlantic Ocean revealed that it had access to an internal chat among members of Trump administration who discussed attacks on the Houthi Rebels of Yemen. This leak was attributed to the national security adviser Mike Waltz, who is reportedly wrongly editor Jeffrey Goldberg’s contact under an incorrect name before sending him an invitation.
According to the NYT, Hegseeth had another private chat group on the Signal app with a dozen members from his inner circle, including his wife. The spokesperson for Hegseeth, Sean Parnell, claimed that the Times tried to bring the Signalgate story “Back from the dead.”
Last week, three Pentagon officials who were suspended in the midst of an internal investigation into alleged leaks released a joint statement in which their alleged abuse was denounced.
Senior adviser Dan Caldwell, deputy Staff Chef Darin Selnick, and Colin Carroll, Chief of Staff of Defense Minister Stephen Feinberg, claimed that “Unnamed Pentagon officials have taxed our character with unfounded attacks on the way to the door.”
In an opinion piece for polico, the former main manager of Pentagon John Ullyot argued that Hegseeth is that “Chairing a strange and bewildering cleansing that will leave him without his two closest advisers of more than ten years,” Namely Caldwell and Selnick, as well as other important employees.
